“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind,” A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 1:1:231-2, Sir William Shakespeare.

Well my dear reader ’tis February 2012, the month of love celebrated by lovers, loved ones and anyone who embraces love. I thought it befitting to recant a story of the Parvathi the Hindu Goddess of love. I remember curling up on my GrandMother’s bed each night listening to the many stories of the Gods and Goddesses so it is my time to tell one such story.

The story set in India in the time of the Gods & Goddesses living on earth goes like this:

Lord Shiva the supreme power of the world lived a simple life in the mountains of Kailash. He grieved the loss of his wife Goddess Sati ( who had sacrificed herself after being denounced by her father King Daksha). Goddess Parvati, an incarnation of Goddess Sati, was sent to earth to reunite with Lord Shiva. As Parvati grew into a young woman she began to woo Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was impervious to her attempts. Yet Goddess Parvati was dedicated to her role, consumed with love and devoted her life and daily tasks to making Lord Shiva aware of her. Many stories are told of the severe sacrifices that she made and the long fasts that she underwent in vain.

Goddess Parvati began to meditate on her inner powers until finally Lord Shiva was unable to avoid the love that she exuded. To Parvati it was an aspiration to the state of nirvana. Together Lord Shiva and Parvati (Shakti) attained absolute power and their love story is told and retold to this day. Their offsprings Lord Ganesh (elephant head) and Lord Muraga are also meditated throughout the times, especially during this month of February.

So people ask : “How did Lord Ganesh end up with an elephant head?” This is a story that must be told here, even though I digress:

Lord Ganesh was protecting the bathing area of his mother Parvati when Lord Shiva in one of his myriad of forms of manifestations tried to approach Parvati. Lord Ganesh could not recognize Lord Shiva and tried to stop him. In a flash of rage Lord Shiva beheaded Lord Ganesha. When Parvati realized what had happened Lord Shiva restored life to Lord Ganesh, and replaced his head with that of an elephants. To this day Lord Ganesh is known as the protector and banisher of obstacles.

Another such story tells of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati sitting on their throne with their two sons in front of them. They asked their sons to go around the world. The one who completed the journey the fastest would be rewarded. So the Lord Muraga bounded off immediately. Lord Ganesh paused then walked around the throne on which his parents were seated and stood in front of them. Lord Shiva asked of him:

“Son why are you still here? We asked you to compete with your brother and go around the world?”

To which Lord Ganesh answered:

“Father, but I went around you and Mother. You are my world.”

Love pervades all space and time continuums. Love knows no boundary of age, color, culture yet it is the essence of human kind. When we live life from a core of love then we are able to reach deep within our true self and reach our highest form of being. In the Vedas we learn of the 7 Chakras, their purpose and our journey from the lowest Chakra to the highest Chakra denoted by the purple lotus. When we function from our 7th Chakra then we have optimized our being.

We note the same message in multitudes of self-development texts for instance Dr. Dyer ‘s description of the four levels of development from the athlete, to warrior, to statesman and finally to spirit mentality. In all cultures and in all spiritual teachings the same message pervades: when we reach the stage of unconditional love, when we give without any hope of receiving, then we are one with the energies of our planet and cosmos.

Some humans reach this state very early in their lives, for others they may never know what this state feels like. Meditation, yoga, good deeds, good thoughts are means of attaining the 7th Chakra. From a physiological stand point, our cellular activity resonates ideally when we engage in loving behavior and thoughts. YES, thoughts are the driving force of cellular generation and regeneration. We are what we think: when we think wonderful, pure, loving thoughts our cells vibrate at its optimal level and there is no limit to the powers that we can capitalize on. These powers are manifested in saints over the ages, many of whom live in the mountains and villages of India. Many of whom the holy scriptures of cultures refer to as Jesus Christ, Lord Krishna, Prophet Mohammed and more.

Well for now, ignore all of the above. Instead think on the time that you felt pure love. The simplest example would be when you were in love. Did you feel that rush of goodness in you, did you feel that you could do anything, that you can achieve anything. Yes this is just one experience of the power of love. Now imagine if you were feeling those emotions everyday? If you function from the core of love then you obtain bliss.

I remember the love story of my parents: Father Vie’s gaze fell upon Mother Vie during a spiritual festival in South Africa. Father raised an apple to Mother and the rest was history. They were married in a few months. In the well known Hindu temple in India devotees travel from around the world to climb the 11 km stretch of steps to reach temple of the God & Goddess whom my parents bear the names of. Everything about my parents life together was momentous. As Father breathed his last breath he held out his hand cupped as an apple to Mother symbolizing their love, as we witnessed his demise.

Love is an incredible source of energy that is FREE. It is more powerful than any medication or drug. It can invoke the most incredible and most compassionate manifestations in humans. During this month of February across India and its sister countries like South Africa, thousands of devotees engage in a month of fasting to culminate in amazing feats. Heavy chariots will be pulled by devotees through clasps embedded into their backs. Heavy needles laden with fruit will be pierced into tongues. Others will carry heavy kavadys on their shoulders for long distances barefoot on heated roads. Yet others will walk across fire-pits with kavadys as calm as if they were walking in water. The event is dedicated to Lord Muraga who used his holy Vel (spear) to win an inter-planetary war.

So what is pure love? Pure love is a state of being that can be attained through pure thoughts and pure deeds of kindness, compassion and humility. Anyone can practice love anywhere in the world without any financial expense.

This 2012 when so many call for the destruction of our planet, a revisit from the Gods / creatures from other planets, or the rebirth of a new age, many of us humans seek to experience the very best on earth.

In my humble opinion the very best on earth is the very best in us.

When we function from a core of love we nurture our planet and we can feel the greatest peace.

With love

“The last couple months have been quite a bit different than I had envisioned since the last Olympics. To say I’ve switched gears is a big understatement. I have very quickly gone from having complete focus for the 2012 Olympic year to now having a healthy and happy pregnancy being my new and exciting reality,” said Willock, who competed for Canada at the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing and at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Willock, an integral member of the Canadian Women’s Road Cycling Team, boasts an impressive cycling resume, which includes several victories on the professional racing circuit and many Top 10 at UCI World Cups throughout her career.

“I will definitely miss racing in 2012, as this is such an important year. Nevertheless, I’ll be cheering on my teammates from both Team TIBCO and the Canadian Cycling Team. You can be sure that I’ll be glued to my computer and TV checking the latest results, race reports and live coverage. There is so much depth in women’s cycling right now, especially Canadian Cycling, that it will be a great year to be a fan,” continued Willock.

Speaking to her teammates of the Canadian Cycling Team, Willock is confident that Canada will thrive at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, this summer and bring home some medals.

“To my teammates on the Canadian Cycling Team, I want to wish you all the best of luck! I am very excited to watch you all excel. For those who are vying for those precious spots on the Olympic Team for London, I hope you enjoy the experience, and more importantly have medals to bring home to show me!”

Denise Kelly, head coach of the Canadian Road Cycling Team, will miss Willock in the peloton this summer. “Erinne is an undoubtedly an outstanding cyclist – one of Canada’s finest. Her outgoing personality and aggressive racing style will definitely be missed this summer in the peloton across the world, and I join the staff at the Canadian Cycling Association to wish her a safe and healthy pregnancy. We are looking forward to enhancing our development programs with this new cyclist that will be born this summer.”

Linda Jackson, coach and directeur sportif at Team TIBCO, also shares her joy for Erinne’s future new addition to her life. “Everyone at Team TIBCO is incredibly happy for Erinne. We want to congratulate her and Tony as they embark on this wonderful new experience. Erinne is a tremendous person and I’m sure we’ll miss her talent and leadership this year, but there are more important things in life than racing a bike. We wish Erinne and her baby all the health in the world.” Dr. Vie sponsor of Erinne on Team Tibco states ” Erinne was amazing last year. Not only is she a super athlete, but also a loving person. She will make an fantastic mother.”

So 2012 has arrived – a fair amount of the world population scurry for survival kits in view of the portended end of the world. What would you do if you knew that you had a few months to live? Quit your job? Visit the places you have been dreaming of? Spend time with loved ones. Perhaps the world needs a jolt of reality to push us out of our comfort zone to address the true meaning of life.

Over the last decade we have witnessed a spike in natural disasters: hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, heat waves and more. Scientific discussion revolve around the possibility of gravitational destruction to earth, a weakening of the earth’s magnetic field or a collision with another planet. Religious leaders encourage their followers to repent their sins. Spiritual leaders talk of a reawakening of a more conscious, enlightened population that will move away from materialism and industrialization to a more spiritually evolved existence. A life that embraces love and compassion and respect for our living planet.

For certain, each of us has our opinions. For some this is all hogwash, conjured up by bored minds, conspirators or other like minded people. Millions of dollars are being made off the fear of thousands as they rush to build underground or above elevation homes, hotels and lavish survival shelters. Tools and survival kits are proliferating the stores.

For certain the world has changed since the start of industrialization and the escalation in technology, androids, weapons of mass destruction and methods to clone humans. Perhaps the world was more serene and less violent before the advent of machines. Perhaps we do need to revert to the basics, to a more natural form of living, to prevent destruction of our planet and to contribute to its homeostasis. We as humans are a vital part of the ecosystem.

The human body thrives on pure water, wholesome natural food, clean air, restful sleep and a loving temperament. The stresses of contemporary life can be overwhelming and override the simple fact that keeping it simple is not stupid. The power of the human mind is undermined by the demands of society. Many state that stress is good. Stress is actually not good if it is experienced repeatedly or over long periods of time. This type of stress changes the cellular structure of our DNA.

So we note that the masses of the world population are highly stressed or not happy with themselves. We also know what happens when people are unhappy- they cannot display loving demeanour, hurt those around them and compassion becomes a 10 letter word too difficult to practice.

Stress must be relieved and happiness nurtured for us to enjoy life.

So how is stress relieved?
1. List the things that make you feel stressed. Rate the stress from a scale of 1 – 10 with 10 being extreme stress that you would not want to tolerate repeatedly.
2. List the things that make you feel light-hearted and happy.

When are you stressed? When are you happy?

3. By keeping it simple: Increase the things that make you happy and decrease the things that make you stressed. Start by addressing the ones at the extreme of the scale.

4. Engage in exercise 20 minutes a day to increase the happiness endorphin. Take in fresh air to rejuvenate your body.
5. Consume fresh natural foods and drink pure water.
6. Enjoy restful deep sleep each night.
7. Spend time with loved ones in person or other means. Preferably the former.
8. Engage in a job with the knowledge that you are contributing to our planet a job that makes you feel happy even if the money is not as grand. If you do not like your job, get another job or start your own enterprise doing something that you love doing. Never remain in a job that makes you feel unhappy or unworthy. You are hurting yourself and your employer.
9. Wish your fellow beings well always. Do not engage in hurtful actions.
10. Practice compassion – it is simple and very rewarding and addictive by the way!

So my dear reader, I wish you and your loved ones the very best for 2012. For all the predictions made and all the speculations on what is to become of our planet in December 2012, it behooves us to look deep within ourselves and to be our true selves.

Be happy this year.

It is time to be happy.

With love,
Always

As 2011 draws to an end, ’tis the time to ponder on all the years challenges, set backs, pain, accomplishments and joy. I am so fortunate this year to spend this time with my dearest Mother Vie. I am jolted into the reality of family and the love of cherished ones and suddenly the trials and tribulations of a one-woman company fades into oblivion. Yes, love is the most powerful source of renewable energy on our Planet.

Ah, the first thought in most minds reading this snippet is probably : “She’s crazy,” or “That’s too simple,” or “Fiddlesticks,” or “That’s right.”

Well, my beloved reader it is after all my nostalgic postulations, nespa? Indulge me and grant me this indulgence, pretty please!

So let us take a journey back in time to the start of 2011: I actually worked all through the 23 December 2010 through the 4 January 2011, to churn out a pallet order for my Ontario distributor. Unbeknownst to his team, my newly hired raw food Chef called in sick on 22 December leaving me stranded (he quit while on sick leave). So I put into action my emergency plan – called to the front lines the emergency VOopma-Loompas, namely MOI, Me to the meeting room to discuss the strategy for Production 7 by 7.

You see, I had only just renovated our new facility on Nuns Island on 1 December 2010 and the pallet order would be my first full scale roll out. So over 7 days and 7 nights my factory was my exercise field (yes, I am a mountain runner for those who do not know me) as I ran around the 4000 square feet premises with its 24 foot ceiling like a hundred Oopma-Loompas dragging heavy containers of ingredients, mixing formulations, grinding, mixing and tempering thousands of products for Production 7 by 7.

The most frustrating part of P7by7 believe it or not, was trying so hard to find the keyhole on the door in the dark as I tried to lock up the factory each night. Ja (Dutch for yes), there was no light outside my factory door! (yes the landlord was aware of it).

The second ordeal was starting up my weathered BMW sports (10 years old) to a warm enough position to get me out of the parking lot safely each night.

“She drives a BMW,” you think.

Ja, it has been my car of choice wherever I have lived. Note: I was a successfully employed Scientist in Europe in my previous life before becoming an entrepreneur. If it is any consolation to the reader, Canadian Tire was my repair shop for my cherished Beemer for the last four years. Ja, it was cheaper to retain my Beemer than let her go and struggle to pick up daily supplies and drop off large orders.

So back to the saga: The rest of my P7by7 night was spent soaking away my aches in my tub and winding down in front of my fireplace as I fell off to sleep. Before the crack of dawn each P7by7 morning I was running outside along the frozen St. Lawrence river, knee deep in soft snow to get my emotional mindset before meditating and heading off to the factory.

By the fifth day of P7by7 I was on a roll. I was almost finished – the next two days were spent packing and preparing the pallet. So my good reader, when Al the sweet Ontario driver arrived with his trailer on 4 January and I rolled up the loading dock door in the freezing cold, the pallet was ready to be delivered to thousands of loyal consumers across the Eastern Canada.

My 2011 started with a bang and what a year it was to be for me and the rest of the world.

So we witnessed the horrific earthquake in Japan and watched in awe as the tsunami survivors taught the rest of the world about humility and hope as they waited calmly for food and water. No hysteria, no fighting, no hatred. Just humility. I bow down to the Japanese.

Here in Canada we witnessed another course in humility as Jack Layton made history in the federal election. A little man hobbling on a cane, beset with cancer, brought together a nation as we mourned his sad demise. I bow down to Jack Layton.

In the same vein we witnessed yet another symbol of creativity leave our planet. Steve Jobs, a genius, way ahead of his time. A man who rallied together people who were afraid of technology and computers into a community of communication junkies smiling from ear to ear because he made it so easy to be computer literate. The world mourned his loss. I bow down to Steve Jobs.

Amidst the demise of revered souls, we witnessed the economic slump of Europe as the EU rallied to the aid of its fellow nations Greece, Italy and perhaps more. Too much borrowing, too much debt -a vicious cycle for the Americas and more as parents try to fulfill the demands of their offspring and the world focuses on acquiring more industrial wealth to the sacrifice of our natural environment.

Albeit, space time continuum is an interesting phenomena : yes multitudes of occurrences at the same time even if invisible to the knowledge of human kind. Or perhaps we chose to ignore it. Ah a topic for another conversation piece.

So as the world witnessed the assassination of Osama Bin Laden and Fidel Castro and countries reveled as the world witnessed the royal splendour as Princess Kate & Prince William’s marriage rekindled romance in millions around the globe. Love inspires hope in all.

So from Charlie Sheen’s desire to help Canadians manage their anger to life-size Barbie dolls, we laughed and we cried this year for all that was witnessed and for all those we shall miss.

Of all the outrages that we witnessed the one that got our eyes rolling around our pretty heads was the one that gave a USA politician a 8 year sentence for political messup and Dr. Conrad Murray enjoyed a four year (2 year probation) sentence for the death of our Michael Jackson- a legend who changed the history of pop music. An irreplaceable symbol. So much for faith in medical doctors who sponge off their patients weaknesses with no consideration for the oath of saving a life.

C’est la vie, nespa? That’s life hein!

So as the year winds down, so too do many aspects of our lives as we let go of things beyond our control, as we forgive those who have caused us pain, as we say a silent prayer for those who are in pain, as our thoughts meander to those who need help, as we meditate on the future of our planet……in spite of the death of Kyoto.

My thought is this:

This was the most labour intensive year for me, as I toiled single handedly to produce, market and sell our foods across the nation forsaken by my supposed team. Long days and longer nights, sacrificing so much. I found my renewable energy in the love of Mother Vie (+70 year loving soul), the magic of the mountains and the power of daily meditation. It churned me on in the darkest of days, when I was at my lowest, when I thought the day would never end.

I realized many things. Most of all when with Mother Vie at my side two weeks ago, Mother & I had to shut down our production facility after being harrassed and bullied by the landlord’s maintenance crew. In addition to the incident we were also let down by essential members of our supposed team: yes I realized that

- there comes a time that for energy to be renewed, it must first be at its all time low.

-We must close one door to open another.

-To be free we must break from incarceration.

The space time continuum deems that we as humans need to look beyond what is visible to the human eye. It is always more than it seems to be.

As the homeostasis of our earth is disrupted by industrialization in the pursuit of energy for the overuse of human kind, we as humans MUST contemplate that there is a lot of work to be done.

The main task is to work on our spiritual well being – to look beyond material obsession. To overcome our failure to love. To work on our power to love and regain hold of our powerful being. Our greatest task on earth is to love unconditionally. It is the most important measure of success in our earthly lives. Nothing else matters.

Yes, loads of employment openings. Lets get together the unemployed, those on welfare, those on strike rallies, those who are bored and those with ample time to hate, and those with more than enough time to criticize and complain and get them to work.

Our planet needs us to rekindle the energy, to sow the seeds for healthier plantations, to clean our waters of impurities, to energize our environment with positive thoughts, to steer our young towards compassion & love….ah there is so much to do.

So my dear reader as I conclude this piece, I reiterate with clarity: the power of renewable energy lies within each of us. It is up to us to delve within our souls and to capitalize on the power that we are naturally endowed with, the power to renew our planet with love, hope and all things positive and with unconditional love.

The power of renewable energy lies within us.

Until we meet again,
With love,
Always,

After weeks of speculation, the main event at Battlefield Fight League 13, set for Vernon, B.C. on February 11th, 2012, is official and it’s one of the biggest title fights in BFL history. Dr. Vie’s natural foods feed Matt as he cuts weight before his fights, during training and while waiting to get into the cage to fight. During the last 2 weeks of Dr. Vie & Mother Vie’s tough times in Montreal (assault of Dr. Vie at the factory) Matt Baker was the first of Dr. Vie’s athletes to jump to the defenseless women’s rescue. ”Matt has a heart of gold and a body of steel, ” says Dr. Vie. This young man, raised as a foster child, now donates his monies to foster children. He is humble, has no big ego, and is an athlete who actually saves lives versus athletes who focus on titles, glory and monies for personal gain.

Local fan-favourite Matt “The Riotmaker” Baker (7-2) Dr.Vie’s athlete, who is the most successful BFL pro fighter so far with three wins by stoppage, will face red-hot veteran Andrew Buckland (14-8-1), who will make his BFL debut for the vacant middleweight championship!

Especially to fight fans in the Thompson-Okanagan, Kamloops, B.C.’s own Matt Baker needs little introduction. One of the biggest draws in the region, Baker scored a hard-fought submission victory this August over Marcus Vinicius in the main event at Battlefield’s Vernon debut. The twenty-seven-year-old, who debuted in July, 2009, has competed nine times as a professional with nearly half those fights taking place close to home despite a sometimes frustrating lack of viable events.

Over that span, “The Riotmaker” has thoroughly earned his cage-name, repeatedly thrilling crowds to near-dangerous levels with his aggressive style, while also ending all but one victory with a clear-cut finish. Baker remains undefeated at middleweight, which is his natural weight-class, and is best known for scoring highlight reel KOs.

Still, perhaps partly in response to having lost twice by submission at 205lbs., Baker made the bold cross-equator move to begin training at a BJJ mecca in Team Nogueira Rio. After winning his last two consecutive fights by submission, it has become clear to MMA enthusiasts across Canada that Matt Baker is a well-rounded fighter to watch. Earning a Battlefield FL pro title this February would surely catch the attention of an even wider audience.

But don’t get out your pitchforks just yet “Riotmaker” fans, standing in Baker’s way is a stalwart member of Canada’s MMA elite. Although only three years Baker’s senior, at thirty, and having debuted only two years earlier, in 2007, Calgary, Alberta’s Andrew Buckland holds over a dozen more fights on his record. Buckland also holds twice the number of victories, two more (T)KOs, and vastly more matches against internationally established names, including bouts with Dan Hornbuckle, David Loiseau, John Alessio, and Jordan Mein.

In addition, Buckland has broken-out in 2011 and is currently riding a career-resurgent tear. After setting a furious pace of roughly one bout every two months for nearly four years, mostly on the Alberta MMA scene, Buckland knew last year that he needed a change. He moved to the comparatively laid back climes of Nanaimo, B.C. and joined the talented group at John Punt’s Impact MMA. Over his last three appearances, Buckland has gone 3-0 against opponents with combined records of 16-3 on fight night.

In his most recent fight, Buckland picked up a welterweight title last September in an Alberta based promotion. At BFL13, he will look to add to that hardware at middleweight, which is not his traditional home.

The outcome of Baker versus Buckland is absolutely anyone’s guess with factors ranging from age, experience, comfort at a weight class, and all-around skill nearly cancelling each other out.

Luckily, that leaves BFL fight fans with what they crave most: the strong prospect of a well-matched brawl for championship gold that could easily go a full twenty-five minutes.

“Mother Vie & I are in awe of Matt Baker, an amazing soul who came to our rescue without hesitation. We are going through very tough times right now. The attempted assault on me at the factory last week, our landlords denial of the aggression from their repair men, the lack of heat at our factory has brought production to a halt. We are losing major revenue during this peak holiday season. However, safety comes first above all else. Mother & I are searching for new facilities that will embrace women entrepreneurs without bully tactics. We welcome your support,” says Dr. Vie, Scientist & Founder of Dr. Vie since 2005.

With love always

By Gillian Dr. Vie athlete: Local Ride/Dr. Vie Superfoods+ teammate, Jasmin Glaesser, and I travelled halfway around the world to the first UCI Track World Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan as members of the Canadian National Track Team. The Canadian squad for this competition was comprised mainly of development riders, and although Jasmin was coming off a very successful Pan American Games as a member of the gold-medal winning Women’s Team Pursuit, neither of us had ever attended a World Cup race before, and were both eager to get out on the track and show the world what we could do.

Unfortunately, actually getting on the track in the first few days would prove more difficult than we had anticipated, as none of the Canadian team bikes made it to Astana until the Wednesday prior to competition. Monday was spent riding rollers in the hotel basement on US Sprint Coach Jamie Staff’s road bike (turns out one size does fit all!), then on Tuesday the entire team was outfitted with some rental bikes, courtesy of the velodrome.

By Wednesday, we were very well-rested and raring to go, so upon getting the excited phone call that our bikes had finally arrived, the entire team piled into the first shuttle bus to the track. Our mechanic, Sandy, and team manager, Jonny, had the bikes built and ready to ride in record time, so without further ado, we all hopped up on the track for some warm up efforts.

Thursday was race day – the Women’s Team Pursuit qualifiers were first up, and the Canadian team of myself, Jasmin, and Julia Bradley was the last team to start. With very minimal time spent practicing together, and only one training session on the track prior to the race, we rode a good race and more importantly, gained valuable experience for our next international competition.

The next evening, after watching the opening ceremonies from the Team Canada pen, I was up on the track again for the Points Race final. This was my first big mass-start race, and I was very motivated to ride hard and get a good result for the team. After winning the first sprint, taking 3 points in another, and then gaining a lap with a small group, I was well-placed for a podium position. Unfortunately, with 8 laps to go I was caught up in a crash and didn’t score points in the final sprint, finishing the race 4th overall with 28 points. I was disappointed initially, especially after sitting in second place for most of the race, but I’m very happy to have finished in the top five at my first World Cup.

Over the next two days, Jasmin won the Scratch Race and placed 4th in the Points Race on her way to finishing an amazing 7th place overall in the Omnium, capping off a successful campaign by the Canadian Team at the first World Cup of the 2011-2012 season. Huge thanks to our mechanic Sandy Gilchrist, team manager Jonny Evans, videographer Steve Sleep, and coach Richard Wooles for taking care of every last detail and allowing us to think about nothing but racing and making the most of this incredible learning experience!

Mother Vie and I congratulate our Dr. Vie Superfoods Local Ride womens track team from BC on their great performance in Astana Kazakhstan. We here in Montreal are experiencing trying times fighting lack of heat at our factory and attempted assault from our landlords repair men. Amidst all of our hard times here we wish our team the very best.

With love and well wishes

Pescadero, California – Joanne Kiesanowski of Dr. Vie’s Team TIBCO USA got her
journey toward earning a spot for the London Olympics off to a good start this
week. She took a dominating victory in the omnium at the New Zealand track
national championships, held in Invercargill, on the South island.

Kiesanowski left little doubt during the two-day competition, winning
five of the six events that make up the omnium, which will be contested at the
Olympics for the first time next year. The omnium is essentially the decathlon
of track cycling, consisting of six different events contested over a two-day
period. The rider with the lowest points total from the sum of all their
placings wins.

“I’m very happy with my performances over the two days of
composition, she said. “I was very close to personal best times in the three
timed events, which is great for the early season as I continue to build for the
World Cup season.”

Kiesanowski is trying to represent New Zealand at the
Olympics for the third time. If she’s able to make the squad and contest the
omnium, it’s quite likely that her biggest rival will be Dr. Vie’s Team TIBCO teammate

and double omnium world champion Canadian Tara Whitten.

The national championships came in the midst of a track camp in her native New Zealand,

which she’ll continue for another week. “My next competition will be the Oceania
Championships at the end of November here in Invercargill,” she said. “I just
want to keep building on my performance at nationals and do well at the
international competitions. But I’m definitely pleased with how things have
started.”

Notes The national omnium title was Kiesanowski’s fourth national title. She has
previously won the national road race, and the scratch and points titles on the
track.

Mother and I wish Joanne the very best. We look forward to a very competitive series of

races in London as our Canadian women race against our USA women! Go Dr. Vie women!

(Guadalajara, MEXICO In a track cycling discipline that is dominated by Dr. Vie’s Canadian cyclist Tara Whitten (Edmonton, AB), Canadian teammate Stephanie Roorda (Dr. Vie’s cyclist from Vancouver, BC) proved over the last two days that Canada has depth and strength in track Cycling, narrowly missing the podium to take the fourth place of the Women’s omnium at the 2011 Pan-American games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Racing the new Olympic discipline of omnium, Roorda had the very difficult task to race for Canada in an event that Whitten won back-to-back World Championship titles and World Cup titles. Despite the challenge, Roorda proved that she can ride amongst the best of the American continents. This year March 2011 Steph Roorda was replaced by Clara Hughes at the last minute at the World Championship Finals in Holland (Stephs home country) - alas without Steph the Team fared very badly. A lesson learned for Canada that day.

“If I were to do the omnium on a more full-time basis and make it a focus, the results would certainly have been better. The omnium is not what I have been focusing on, clearly. I raced the omnium at Canadian championships, and that’s about all I have done in the last year. It’s a different beat, entirely,” said Roorda.

“I think I am more proud of the individual pursuit. I went almost ten seconds faster that I had ever gone before and broke the Pan-American Games record. Through the competition, I realized I had a shot at the podium, and that’s what I went for. Unfortunately, it was fourth today. Both the record and the medal would have been ideal. Nothing beats a medal.”

On the first day of competition, and the day after her gold-medal performance in the women’s team pursuit (all 2 women who won are Dr. Vie cyclists on Dr. Vie Superfoods Local Ride team), Roorda placed second in the Flying Lap race, and then raced to a seventh and sixth position in the Points and Elimination races to take the fifth provisional rank midway through the discipline.

On Thursday, Roorda opened up the day with a brilliant win in the individual pursuit with a time of 3:37.544, beating the previous Pan-American record set at 3:40.827 by American rider Mirella Erin at the 1999 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The record-breaking performance jumped Roorda to the third place of the standings .

Later in the day, Roorda crossed the line in seventh place during the scratch race to sit in fourth place, tied with Cuban Marlies Mejias with 22 points before the final race of the gruelling six-race event, the 500m time trials.

Prior to the race, the medal standing was still undetermined. With a medal on the line, Roorda raced to a personal-best time of 37.189, placing fifth. Unfortunately for Roorda, her Cuban rival won the race to secure the bronze medal.

The Track cycling events are now over in Mexico, and what an event for all 3 of Dr. Vie women cyclists on Dr. Vie Superfoods Local Ride Team based in BC Canada, Steph Roorda, Laura Brown and our youngest rider Jasmin Glaesser. Watch my TV interviews with our women throughout this year in Vancouver, Ontario and Quebec.

Mother and I are so very honoured to share the lives of these wonderful young women. Our meditations and thoughts are with them as they train and race around our planet. We love them and always wish them the very best of our planet.

Laura Brown won the Bronze medal at the individual Time Trials at the Pan Am games yesterday. As of today Canada has 9 medals under its belt! Two medals thanks to our Dr. Vie Superfoods Local Ride women from BC, Canada.

The Canadian Cyclist reports: The team qualified for the gold medal race with a time of 3:25.093 in the morning session, and in doing so broke the previous Canadian record, which was set at 3:25.416 at the 2010 UCI World Cup in Melbourne, Australia by Brown, Roorda and Tara Whitten (Edmonton, AB).

In the Gold medal dual against Cuba, Roorda, Brown and Glaesser rode to an amazing time of 3:21.488 to set a new Pan-American mark, and significantly improve on their morning’s qualifying performance.

“It’s cheesy, but there is a quote that says ‘Happiness is only achieved when success is shared’. To win a gold medal with my teammates Steph and Jasmin has been amazing. It’s certainly a very special medal,” said Brown, who also took the bronze medal in the women’s road time trials on Sunday.

“It’s amazing! We were just trying to beat the other team. When I turned around and I saw 3:21,4, I felt that it was almost better than winning the gold medal, because that is a fantastic result for this team. We had never raced together before today, just trained together,” said Stephanie Roorda, who will be racing the women’s omnium for Canada over the next two days.

Today’s racing also marked the first international appearance on the track by Jasmin Glaesser while wearing the Canadian uniform. The young cyclist held a German licence until a few weeks ago (check out my interview with her in the video above) when she officially received her Canadian citizenship before making the trip to Mexico.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was absolutely amazing. All three of us committed 100% to the ride, to doing our best. I couldn’t believe seeing that 3:21 up there afterwards. It’s just amazing,” said Glaesser. “I’m so glad that I can race for Canada. I’ve been working really hard for this, and really glad to be here. I’ve been enjoying the experience. I am so excited about the next year, us going as a team, getting more experience.”

Tanya Dubnicoff, coach of the Canadian Track Cycling Team in Guadalajara, was thrilled with the brilliant performance of this newly formed team. “What an amazing day. I knew after seeing the qualifying times that we were the team with more to gain going
into the finals. That being said, you can’t count anyone out. We knew the Cubans would come out fast, and we had to stick to our plan, to keep to our schedule and we did. I didn’t even look at the board, at the Cubans. I have never seen a better ride from Team Canada in the Women’s Team Pursuit. It was beautiful.”

Mother Vie & I are so humbled to support them this year. It takes a lot out of us personally as a small company to support our women but we do it out of pure love. Happiness is best shared….as Steph so aptly says. These are the women on our home page screen.
