Kimberly Joines is a successful veteran on the Canadian Para-Alpine Team. From an early age, she was raised on sport and competition. The daughter of a coach and physical education teacher, and athlete of the year in her high school (1999), she always had Olympic aspirations. After sustaining a spinal cord injury while snowboarding in 2000, Kimberly grabbed hold of life in a wheelchair and started pushing her limits in a sit ski immediately. Her no holds bar approach to the sport of Para-Alpine Racing has been a roller-coaster ride… full of intense wins, intense crashes, and a lot of lessons learned. Her successes on the World Cup circuit have placed her in the top ranking of the world on a number of occasions, and consistently place her on the podium. She is teaming up with Dr. Vie Superfoods as she gears up for the next four years, in preparation for Sochi 2014.

“There is no formula for success, except perhaps an unconditional
acceptance of life and what it brings.” Arthur Ruberstien
“It always works out in the end… so if it isn’t working out, it just isn’t finished yet.” author unknown
Kimberly’s schedule for the upcoming year involves more training, and less racing than some seasons. In a post Paralympic year, and for Kimberly an injury recovery year, the focus will go back to basics. She has been in training from November 2010 through February, and competes throughout March. It is important to take a building year, to break bad habits and re-establish proper muscle memory for technical skills. Based on Kimberly’s progress throughout the season, more races may be added at a later date.
