Dr. Vie’s 13 year old athletes and elite athletes have been racing and competing in the USA, Canada, France, Belgium & Holland last month. Dr. Vie athletes compete in road cycling, track cycling, cross biking, soccer, long-boarding, mixed martial arts (with Bibiano Fernandes 5 times world champion -see below) and playing music  – these amazing youngsters have been keeping fit and busy as they train, race and are interviewed on Canadian TV (CTV, Global) Radio and European newspapers. Who are these amazing youngsters whom I am so proud of?

Maggie Coles-Lyster Dr. Vie cyclist 2012 Canadian womens team

Dr. Vie Superfoods+ Local Ride  women’s cycling team (8 riders) based in Vancouver, BC had an interesting month. Our 13 year old youth rider Maggie has been tearing it up in the road races this season across the Pacific Northwest. At thirteen years old Maggie may be young, but already she has added some impressive results to her list of palmarès this season. In May she traveled to Enumclaw Washington, and raced in the adult Category 4 Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race. After the Stage 1 and 2 Time Trial and Crit, she was placed in the top 15 in the General Classification. Then in the final Stage 3 Road Race she impressively made her way into a break-away, moving up in the GC to 6th place! On June 2nd she raced the Provincial Road Championships in Victoria BC, also racing up an age group with the Junior (Under-19) women. She stayed with the lead group, on this challenging and hilly race course again proving that she has some great climbing legs, and finished 3rd in an exciting sprint finish.

Such a notable list of results at her young age has drawn attention from CTV News Perry’s Prospects, which tell stories of up-and-coming athletes. She was featured on last Thursday’s Six O’clock news. You can watch the her appearance on the show here and see her training at the Burnaby Velodrome and her local roads in Maple Ridge. The rest of Dr. Vie Superfoods+ elite women’s team has had some great recent results internationally, as well as in their home province of BC. Gillian, Laura and Steph spent five days in May racing for the Canadian National Team at the inaugural Exergy Tour in Idaho USA. This internationally sanctioned women’s road race, showcased some of the best riders from across North America and the world. Gillian had an excellent result on Stage 2, placing 5th and earning the Best Young Rider’s Jersey for a part of the event. Laura showed her grit and determination, when she made a bid for the win in the Stage 2 time trial, but crashed pushing the limit in the last corner. Not letting that stop her, she quickly recovered and ran her bike across the line, still only finishing 1:38 down and starting Stage 3 the next day. Meanwhile back in BC Lisa Howard placed an awesome 2nd place at the 20th Annual Condo Group Bastion Square Grand Prix on June 3rd. This exciting criterium event plays host to thousands of spectators, in scenic downtown Victoria BC.

Dr. Vie Superfoods+ Local Ride also has a guest rider Sandra Walter. She has had an excellent start to the mountain bike season, where she races for the Xprezo-Borsao Factory Team. Already she has had multiple Canada Cup wins, and has won the series title. Great work Sandra! We are proud! Go Sandra.
