Cycling crash Dr. Vie Team Tibco girls challenging times in USA

Pescadero, California – Dr. Vie Team TIBCO/To the Top will look to put an end to a run of bad luck starting tomorrow when it opens the Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas. Team Captain Meredith Miller will be joined by two of her teammates from the SRAM Tour of the Gila, Carlee Taylor and Serena Sheridan, as well as Megan Guarnier and Joanne Kiesanowski. The Team has experienced its share of adversity of late, with a string of crashes taking out team leaders Alison Powers (Redlands Classic) and Erinne Willock (Drentse 8) earlier in the season, and Carmen Small crashing out of Stage 1 of Gila last week. Emma Mackie was victimized by a crash at the Athens Twilight Crit this past Saturday. Small, who was slated to take the start, will continue to recover from her Gila crash, where she luckily didn’t sustain any breaks, but is sufficiently banged up to require some recovery time. “We’ve definitely had a run of some bad luck,” said Team Directeur Sportif/Manager Lisa Hunt. “I think every team experiences some of this over the course of a season to some degree. But I think we’ve had more than our fair share.” While the Team isn’t bringing a full six-rider roster to Joe Martin, the squad is plenty strong, and the course suits riders like Miller, Kiesanowski and Guarnier, all of whom has experience and success at this race, with Kiesanowski taking a stage win there in 2009. “It’s a challenging race,” Hunt said. “It’s got some climbs in it, but it’s not a climber’s race. It can be won – or lost – on time bonuses,” Hunt said. “Alison has won the past two editions and she will be missed this weekend. But Megan has been steadily improving on her climbing and time trialing, and Meredith has been strong all season. We intend to make an impact on the race.” Joe Martin opens Thursday with a 2.5-mile uphill time trial, followed by Friday’s 64-mile road race. Saturday offers up another rolling 63-mile road stage, before closing Sunday with a 55-minute criterium. Samantha Schneider, Kendall Ryan and Jennifer Wheeler will continue to race that series. Joelle Numainville, who started in yesterday’s Beaufort Criterium in South Carolina, is headed to the Pan Am Games qualifyer races in Colombia this weekend, looking to represent Canada in the Games this fall.
