Fayetteville, AR USA – Dr. Vie Team Tibco cyclist Megan Guarnier led a strong showing in the opening uphill time trial of the Joe Martin Stage Race today, taking 3rd place on the day. She finished the 2.5-mile climbing course in a time of 9:51.72, just under 0:10 behind stage winner Janel Holcomb, and barely a half-second behind 2nd place Kathryn Donovan. Go girl!
Guarnier was joined in the top 15 by teammates Meredith Miller (11th @ 0:35) and Serena Sheridan (14th @ 0:49).
“All the girls rode very well today,” said Team Directeur Sportif Lisa Hunt. “I was really confident that Megan would podium today. She’s been showing great form and I’m really excited to see her high finish today.” "Congrats to our girls", says Dr. Vie from Montreal.
Guarnier attributed some of her success today to good preparation. “I pre-rode the course one and a half times so I had a good idea of what to expect and how to ride it,” she said. “The weather conditions were good. It was cool with a slight tailwind. Everything just went really well.”
Guarnier and the rest of the Team will start their assault on the top spot in the overall with a 64-mile road race on Friday. The rolling course offers up time bonuses, including a 10-second bonus for the stage winner.
“We’re going to be looking for the time bonuses tomorrow,” Hunt said. “I’m sure Colavita will try to defend Janel’s lead, but we want the win. Megan has great form, and Jo (Kiesanowski) knows the finish really well, having won that stage two years ago. It should be a great race.”
