Two women from 2 of Dr. Vie’s teams represent Canada at the Pan Am Games this month.  Laura Brown (in pic) from Dr. Vie Superfoods Local Ride BC womens elite team and Joelle Numainville (pic below) from Dr. Vie’s Team Tibco USA elite womens team have been chosen.

“These are two amazing cyclists and I wish them well, ” says Dr. Vie sponsor of these two women.  “As a small company that relies on physical labour to make its fresh foods, we are  limited in our budget, it takes a lot out of me personally to support these strong women and I feel humbled to help them shine bright,” says Dr. Vie who has been closely involved in their pursuits this year, feeding them and cheering them, interviewing them from the race cars, tracks and road as they raced in rain, storms and heat.  Watch the numerous Dr. Vie TV interviews with the teams during 2011.

Laura Brown and Joelle Numainville and the rest of Canadian squad are headlining a well-balanced Canadian cycling team competing at the 2011 Pan-American Games to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, this month, announced the Canadian Cycling Association on Wednesday, in conjunction with the Canadian Olympic Committee.

The cycling sports of BMX, mountain biking, track cycling and road cycling will be disputed at this major multi-sport event in Mexico.

Laura Brown of Vancouver, BC will be leading the women’s track team. She will be joined by Stephanie Roorda, also of Vancouver, BC, and Jasmine Glaesser of Coquitlam, BC.  The three women (riders on Dr. Vie Superfoods Local Ride Team) will be racing the Women’s Team Pursuit, and event to be included for the time in the Olympic programme at the 2012 Games. Both Laura Brown and Stephanie Roorda won a medal in the Team Pursuit event on the UCI World Cup tour this past season.

Our young Jasmine Glaesser will be racing for the first time as a Canadian on the international scene after receiving her Canadian citizenship. Watch Dr. Vie’s incredible video of this young women as she missed the gold by a ms after world champions Tara Whitten (also Dr. Vie athlete) this year in Bromont during August.  “Hanging out with these girls/women at dinner was interesting, ” says Dr. Vie.

In road racing, powerful sprinter Joëlle Numainville (also Dr. Vie rider on Tibco) of Montreal, QC will be looking to squeeze
her way to the podium, along with Denise Ramsden of Yellowknife, NWT. Numainville is one of Canada’s top cyclists and performs well in races finishing in bunch sprints. Ramsden is the current U23 Canadian champion in both the Road and the Time trials races.

The Pan-Am Games are not a direct qualifier for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. For some cycling
disciplines, the athletes will compete for UCI points which determine the World Rankings from which the Olympic quotas are allocated by the UCI.
