(Maple Ridge, BC) – Local Ride Bike Shop is teaming up with Dr. Vie Superfoods+ to create a new powerhouse women’s road and track racing squad for 2011, Team Local Ride / Dr. Vie Superfoods+.

“I’m pleased that Local Ride Bike Shop will once again play a role in supporting some of Canada’s top female cyclists as they strive to reach their goals and potentially represent Canada at the 2012 Olympics,” said Local Ride Bike Shop Owner Barry Lyster.

The new squad will see Local Ride Bike Shop’s highly successful women’s team unite with Dr. Vie Superfoods+ to create a program that will support the talented roster as they strive to compete at the highest level.

“Mother Vie [Dr. Vie Superfoods+ Chair Woman] and I are thrilled to support our team of amazing young Canadian cyclists. I enjoyed meeting Laura Brown, Steph Roorda and Jenny Lehmann during their National Track Championships here in Quebec this year. We look forward to a wonderful journey with the entire team of cyclists, their trainers and their support group. They are incredible role models for young girls and children in Canada and around our planet,” said Dr. Vie, CEO & Scientist, Dr. Vie Superfoods+.

In the past five years, Local Ride Bike Shop’s commitment to women’s cycling has resulted in developing BC Cup, Provincial, National, and World Cup champions. “With the added valuable support from Dr. Vie Superfoods+ there is no limit to what these women will be able to achieve,” said Lyster.

Team Local Ride / Dr. Vie Superfoods+ aims to be competitive with the top women’s teams in Canada, racing provincial, national, and international events like BC Cups, BC Superweek, and National Championships. National Track Cycling Team members and World Cup Team Pursuit winners Laura Brown and Steph Roorda will strive to represent Canada at World Cups and World Championships in their quest to don the maple leaf in London 2012. Jasmin Glaesser, Jessica Hannah, and Jenny Lehmann add even more horsepower to the roster with the goal of winning high exposure races, while developing racers Rachel Canning, Sarah Coney, and Lisa Perlmutter are slated to provide support at local and provincial races. Eleven-year-old Maggie Coles-Lyster will make up the Youth Development component of the team.

“I am looking forward to a very successful season with a great mix of young yet highly experienced riders,” said the team’s director, Jeremy Storie. “World Cup Track Cycling winners Steph Roorda and Laura Brown will guide strong development riders Jasmin Glaesser, Sarah Coney and Jenny Lehmann. Jessica Hannah and Rachel Canning are both experienced and Jessica will provide great leadership. I fully expect us to be competitive in every race we start.”

Storie explained the team will run a parallel program between Team Local Ride / Dr. Vie Superfoods+ and the BC Provincial Team program. At local and provincial races, Brown, Roorda, Glaesser, Hannah, and Lehmann will be joined by Canning, Coney and Perlmutter under the Team Local Ride / Dr. Vie Superfoods+ banner, but outside the province and at championship events, Brown, Roorda, Glaesser, Hannah, and Lehmann will represent the province of BC. Coles-Lyster will continue to compete in the Under 17 Youth category.

Brown and Roorda are currently competing with the fastest women on the planet at the first UCI Track Cycling World Cup of the season in Melbourne, Australia. The duo, along with Canadian team mate Tara Whitten, placed an impressive fourth today in the Women’s Team Pursuit. They are well on their way to qualifying for the London 2012 Olympic Games, and if their past and present World Cup results are any indication, they have the potential to be serious medal contenders.

Sponsorship and marketing opportunities are still available with the project. If you are interested in being a part of this exciting program, please contact Team Manager
